2007 Spring Workshop

"Emerging Issues in Wildlife Diseases"

The Chapter hosted a successful two-day workshop on Emerging Issues on Wildlife Diseases on March 21-22, 2007 at the Great falls Discovery Center in Turners Falls, MA. The Silvio O. Conte NWR hosted us at their facility and the USDS APHIS Wildlife Services provided funding for the workshop.

Dr. Mark Pokras of Tufts University opened the workshop with an engaging talk on the emerging field of conservation medicine. This was followed by information sessions on tick-borne diseases, West Nile Virus, and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE). The second day focused on Chronic Wasting Disease and Avian Influenza.

The workshop, attended by 47 the first day and 39 the second day, brought together a diversity of health, wildlife, veterinary, and resource management professionals. The workshop offered 5.75 and 5.0 TWS continuing education credits per day, respectively.
